    • Porsche Taycan RWD Performance Battery Plus 0-220 kph launch control test

As you know Porsche launched their entry level Taycan rear wheel drive model with a choice of two battery packs. This is the Performance Plus version that includes an 'overboost' launch feature pushing output to 476 horses.

You would think it should be quite quick but 4695 pounds as weighed is a lot of mass to move. The acceleration video is not impressive.

0-60 looks to take over 6 seconds and Porsche quotes 0-60 in 5.1 seconds for the standard battery pack Taycan. It gets to 220 kph in a very quiet manner but it does not seem to be all that quick.

Why it was not GPS tested is a good question but look for yourself and be the judge:

I'll Dragy test mine when it arrives at end of month.

General consensus is that the launch performance is turned down on the RWD. Porsche likes to keep the models in a specific segment, with the RWD being the entry level segment.

Maybe we will see a Taycan S, RWD in the future, who knows.

That is kind of sad performance.
EVs are usually best from 0-60 because of the instant torque and they can be more advanced with traction control but this is disappointing.

Were you able to test it?

My wife did a couple of launch control tests in it, definitely underwhelming. She only drove the car once, it has been at detailer getting full paint perfection, coating and PPF.

Is it her car? Did you keep the 992?

How do you like the 992 over the 991?

The 992 is a jillion times better than the 991.2 (except for no APR tune yet).

We've kept the 992 (for now, I have a 992 GT3 allocation) and my wife plans on daily driving the Taycan.

They want 25K over on the GT3 and I am not sure if I can come to giving it up. Hopefully I will be able to get the GT3 order in around end of summer for maybe a December arrival or what not.

Dealer offered me almost what I paid for my 992 as they have customers to buy the car, but I am not yet ready to sell yet.

Also curious what specifically you think is so much better with the 992. I have been in a few and the interior is definitely a step up but I didn't feel like it was as big of a step up as it was from 997 to 991.

But OOF I want that 992 GT3. That press car in Shark blue is exactly what I want but yeah I could not justify $25k over when you know there will be a GT3 RS coming and the production bottlenecks will end soon so the value won't stay over MSRP long.

        Better than 991.2

        1. 8SP DSG, shifts better, runs smoother, launch control is light years ahead, you never feel the engine/transmission move when getting on and off accelerator pedal.

        2. Turbo induction/turbo power delivery. Much better. 992 turbos are instant, you would not think there was latency in the 991.2, but drive a 992 and you will see the difference. My car is advertised as 380HP, easy runs side by side with 991 GT3 and 991.2 GTS, also walks away from a 718 GT4 in a straight line.

        3. Body styling, there is no contest here, the 992 is sexier from ever single angle that you look at it from.

        4. Vehicle electronics. Better nav, better radio, better shifter, better steering wheel, outer gauges you can actually see. The only thing better about the 991.2 was the ability to scroll through the MFA functions with the right side steering wheel stalk. I loved that, however it is absent on the 992.

        5. Braking, even though the brakes are the same size, they just work better on the 992. Maybe it is the 20/21 inch wheel combo.

        6. Lighting, the car has much better lighting and the visibility is somewhat improved.

        7. Road presence, I may be biased, but my guards red 992 is one of the most sexy cars going down the road. The stance is amazing and it gets 10 times more looks than my 991.2 did.

These are my impressions and they may not be the same as anyone else's. I think I am in a pretty good position to judge, as I owned a 991.2 and a 992 back-to-back and the two cars are spec'd as close to each other that you can possible get.

The only thing my 992 is missing is APR calibration for E85.

I want the GT3 for the exact same reason I wanted the 992 over the 991.2. It's all about the technology. I am a junkie for that type of stuff. The double wishbone front suspension and the aerodynamics are haunting me everyday and I cannot stop thinking about them.

Like I mentioned before, it's the over that has a sour taste, but I have quite a bit of confidence it is here to stay. The dealers are getting over original MSRP on used 991.2 GT3 cars that are gently used.

A friggen 996 GT3-RS just went for $192K at auction.

Like I said, making the $25K to cover the over is easy, parting with it is hard. I'll just have to see what happens.

We drove the Taycan today again. The car is a dream to drive down the highway. Super comfortable, feels EXACTLY like a Porsche, has amazing passing power and is smooth as silk.

Porsche definitely is keeping the power away down low though.

Just does not have EV like acceleration from 0-30 MPH.

My eGolf had more off the line zip than the Taycan does. Once the tires are rolling, the Taycan does move out like a 400+HP car.

My only guess is that they did not want any traction issues.

The funny thing is I followed my wife driving and she can get it sideways really easily on pretty much any corner if she wants. The rear is very flat and does not exhibit body roll.

We're going to do a HRSA/NASA HPDE on the 12th of June, she has a Flying Lizard Cup Car driver to instruct her to the fullest potential of the car.

Did you have the PDLS or PDLS plus on your 991? I feel like the lighting is great on the 991.

Im sure Porsche in their typical fashion are artificially limiting the 0-60 accel of the base Taycan to protect the margin on higher end ones. Even being rwd theres no way it should be that much slower off the line.

Yes, will get some Dragy data on Sunday. I'l also try to do some pulls against my 992 if my wife wants to.

addictev.com is a link to porn, maybe you should fix that.

        No shifter, giant minus.

Agreed. But... the 991.2 also looks great.

I'll trade all the electronic crap for a proper shifter.

991.2 wins the tuning game for now.
