    • Tesla battery runs out in parking garage trapping cars for 3 hours

These type so stories will likely become more prevalent over the years but what in the world was the driver thinking? Why did they drive their car knowing the battery was about to run out and they could end up stranding not only themselves but other drivers?

In a parking garage there is not exactly a lot of room to maneuver and you can see the single lane traffic flow above. The cars behind the Tesla were stuck for three hours.

Shoppers at Westfield were left fuming after a Tesla ran out of battery on the car park entry ramp blocking other cars in for three hours.

" Perfect, a Tesla ran out of battery and stopped at the ramp of a 5 storey car park at Westfield. It has been three hours and counting."
Cars ended up reversing out while management figured out how to remove the Tesla.

The mall actually has a large charging station so there really is no excuse here unless stupidity is a defense.

Is dropping into neutral to push or roll not an option due to motors having a permanent mechanical connection to the wheels? If there is a way to make it roll freely this is really no different than a car running out of gas in the same place.

Apparently it went into parking mode which I guess locks the wheels.

Tesla engineers never tested a scenario where you'd run out of battery. Just like they never tested their bumpers in rain, Designed the trunk lids to channel standing water when opened, or for their door handles to function in cold climates.

and you know this to be true how? Are you a Tesla engineer? Do you work at Tesla? No you aren’t and no you don’t. So you don’t know.

A 1 min google search would tell you the reality is Tesla does have a tow mode that allows the dead car to be moved out of the way, but the driver is CLEARLY a moron for not charging the car and not being considerate of others, so what do you expect?

        Oof hyperbole.
Also its not immediately apparent to the average idiot how you enable this tow mode so you can move the vehicle safely on a dead battery, so that's not the most user friendly. Not that the removal of physical PRNDL stalks where you could force the tranny into neutral so you could push it makes things easy either.

        Oof your statement was confusing

you mixed hyperbole on some things with actual things they likely didn’t test.

if they had tested the water channel on the model 3 it would have been discovered, even the improved design isn’t as good as other cars.

if they would have tested the door handles in colder climates they would have discovered the issue.

        those aren’t exaggerations to me.

and yes I agree it’s not very apparent on how to do a lot of things on a lot of cars that’s why there is user manual.

anyway, my bad for assuming you were just another Tesla hater
