    • Extended battery (max pack) Rivian R1T and R1S delayed until 2023

Disappointing news for Rivian fans here waiting for the extended battery version of the Rivian R1T and R1S models. Currently, the maximum range is just over 300 miles but the larger max battery pack is expected to push range to just over 400 miles.

You will have to wait until 2023 to get one of these max pack versions:

As of December 15, we had approximately 71,000 preorders for the R1T and R1S in the US and Canada, with the large majority having configured an Adventure Package with a Large pack battery (our Max pack represents approximately 20% of our preorders). In order to serve the largest number of preorder holders, we will be prioritizing building the Adventure Package with Large pack battery during the next year.

In setting our delivery timing, we optimized our build sequence around the build combination that would support us ramping as quickly as possible and therefore have the largest possible positive climate impact.
Disappointing but it is a good sign Rivian demand and interest is so high.

We just need to see some of these get delivered to end users. There are still quite a few questions to be answered once the production models are scrutinized by the owners. Fit, finish, quality, reliability and owner satisfaction are all elusive right now.

Delaying production is delaying the scrutinization. Too much positive press surrounding the brand which makes me a skeptic.

I definitely want to see independent results but this max battery pack being delayed until 2023 has me looking at the Hummer now.

I received my updated delivery window for my R1S Adventure w large pack. It’s first half of 2023. Later than I’d hoped, but I appreciate the update and communication. I’m keeping my order, but may pick up a M3P or MYP in the short term. I love my Audi, but the crazy amount of money carvana and CarMax are willing to give me for it, combined with the performance benefits of EVs at my altitude, are just too great to pass up. The R1S is perfect for me, and while I’m not a huge fan of the Tesla jelly bean shape or interior, I’m more than sold on the performance and never hitting another gas station (200 mile range covers over 95% of the driving I do). Can’t wait for the R1S, but in the meantime, I’ll enjoy the 11.7sec quarter at 6,500ft in a M3P.

As long as you don't have to look at it...

LOL. It also bugs me how many Model3s there are, but they are impressive performance wise.
