    • Is the new 1000 horsepower Hummer EV the future of trucks?

People usually buy trucks for the utility. With Hummer there is also a certain status involved and GM flipped the script on the brand that was associated with excess and pollution.

Not that a $112k 1000 horsepower truck is not excessive. This version is 'green' however and all electric. The specs are indeed impressive with 1000 lb-ft of torque and 350 mile range.

No doubt it will tow a bunch of weight but for how long? And what do you do if you are towing a long distance with no charging stations in sight? Perhaps somewhere in the mountains or desert? Suddenly this go-anywhere design can not go anywhere at all.

This new Hummer EV obviously has incredible off-road credentials but when off-roading you are usually away from infrastructure. Plus, if going in a group is everyone supposed to wait while you find a place to recharge?

This may end up being the ultimate soccer mom car despite its incredible suspension that raises six inches and the crabwalk mode allowing diagonal driving.

Who knows? What we do know is EV's continue to evolve.

Pretty cool! I think GM is set to release about 20ish new EV's in the next 3 years.

I have to admit I like this thing too.

I feel like this vehicle would benefit greatly from a gasoline range extender.

This or a Raptor+GT350. Or a Bronco Warthog+Mach1. Lot of money for a niche truck. Yes, the performance is sweet, but I struggle with why I’d drop that much money. Of course, I guess their thoughts are it’s a “SuperTruck” that sits next to cars like a McLaren in someone’s garage. In that case, it’s the best of both worlds. I know they said reservations have sold out. Wonder what order of magnitude that is. 100? 1000? I bet it’s not much more than that.

And the way they spec torque is disingenuous.

That interior is hideous! It looks like a jumble of 1980s boomboxes, 1990s gaming consoles and a few Igloo and Coleman coolers.

Maybe they'll do the add on battery in the bed range extender trick like some of the other EV trucks.

Being an 80's kid, this is what I love about the interior.

I mean, isn't a GM interior? What am I missing here? Click here to enlarge

        Mostly to show off.

Not much of a difference for the guy who has a Cayenne Turbo and a 911 to go for this instead of the Cayenne. He will actually save money.

I think EV offroad cars are lost causes. You won’t be able to see any EV offroad overlanding or tackling obstacles since stuff break all the time and unless you work for Tesla powertrain division i don’t think you can even understand what’s broken, let alone fixing it.

Or you can just drive it to mall to overexpose your sheer amount of manliness to your fellow shoppers. Click here to enlarge

I could see it being useful in the mountains during ski season. Plus no suffering from elevation power loss.

I expect strong sales in Aspen and Whitefish.

I expect to see these all over Orange County.
