    • 1st 8-second Tesla - Model S Plaid runs [email protected] 1/4 mile

This was inevitable considering the Tesla Model S Plaid runs low 9's out of the box. As tuning is not part of the equation really it is a game of getting the weight down and more traction off the line to improve the ET (elapsed time) of the Model S Plaid.

The run was at MIR (Maryland International Raceway) which is well prepped and weight was stripped out. A fairly light female driver also helps in this regard.

Drag racing EV's seems to be going the route similar to that of jockeys in horse racing.

Seriously though, still impressive. Would love to know what the weight reduction was to get there.

Apparently just a seat but I think more than that based on the 60 foot and mph.

Zooming in on that picture and I can see a tillet race seat, removed passenger seat, and lack of rear door cards. Finding the lightest driver available is nothing new since DSG took skill out of the equation. There was a lot of back and forth in the 2.5l Audi scene when a record was set with someone's 100b GF behind the wheel when it was previously held by someone 100+lbs heavier.

How long before Elon released drag racing mode that is autopilot. No driver needed Click here to enlarge

At least a few hundred pounds so yah not very daily driver compatible after that…. Haha.

But No other car can offer you an 8 second quarter mile experience with a full factory warranty!

I agree that automatic vs ev is pretty pointless unless you feel like the sound of the motor is more important than ET or MPH Click here to enlarge

the manual drag racers are the true heros, seeing them drive a 7 second car down the track with one hand is just wild

Genuinely can't be bothered to care about these...there's nothing you can do with it, other than screw around with prying off interior pieces to save weight. No interest. And the braking/handling is still very subpar. Only EV that interests me still is the Taycan, but not really with those range numbers.

        Exactly how I feel.

Although the only EV that interests me is the Rivian. Maybe the Hummer as well.

I would highly suggest owners to upgrade the sub par brakes and suspension.

it would be cool to see someone go full carbon/composite body, the pikes peak car had a composite body and im sure it saved a couple hundred pounds. 4,800 down to 4600lbs, plus improved braking and suspension would improve performance for sure.

There is another way to improve performance, but you’ll look like a maniac, I saw a YouTube video of a guy with an older model P90D who added 3 small jet turbine engines Click here to enlarge

        Won't change the weight.

that was to the address the handling… the composite body panels would be to address weight.

*****MIR is my local race track and the launch pad is very well prepped and clean. Plenty of cars set 60 ft and up PR's and the low ET's are definitely helped out by this. Really a remarkable run by that Tesla. I've had several of my old school muscle cars there as well as the old 75-80 Dragstrip in Monrovia when it was open back in the day. Nothing even remotely as fast as that Tesla, but I've had a fairly built up GN do low 11's on pump gas at 121mph trap speed.

I'm still an old gearhead and like the sound of a nicely tuned IC engine. Big cam, exhaust, lumpy idle, etc..
